Friendswood ISD Earns State's Highest Fiscal Accountability Rating
   Friendswood Independent School District officials announced that the district received a rating of "Superior Achievement" under Texas' School FIRST financial accountability rating system.  The Superior Achievement rating is the state's highest, demonstrating the quality of FISD's financial management and reporting system.
   This is the seventh year of Schools FIRST (Financial Accountability Rating System of Texas), a financial accountability system for Texas school districts developed by the Texas Education Agency in response to Senate Bill 875 of the 76th Legislature in 1999. Read on >>
FHS has 13 commended students in National Merit program
   At FHS, 13 students have been named Commended Students in the 2010 National Merit Scholarship Program. A Letter of Commendation from FHS and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program, will be presented to each of the scholastically talented seniors.

Nominate distinguished alums
   Six alumni are set to be honored at the upcoming Friendswood ISD Education Foundation Luv Ya Blue Event Feb. 13 at the Hotel ZaZa in Houston.
   Who will these alumni be?
   That decision is in the hands of community members in Friendswood Independent School District.
   Nominees must be FHS graduates between 1940-1988 who have distinguished lives, careers and/or accomplishments, standing out in their area, state, nation or internationally. Deadline for forms is October 31, 2009.

FHS Sophomores to host Homecoming Dance
   The Sophomore Class at Friendswood High School is sponsoring a Homecoming Dance in the school cafeteria on Saturday, October 10, from 8-11 pm. 
   Everyone at FHS is invited to attend and have a GREAT time!
   Tickets will be on sale at all pre-game dinners.  Denise Fancett, the school receptionist, will also have tickets.

FHS Choir District Auditions announced
   Friendswood placed more students than any other school in the region regardless of school classification, after 57 FHS Choir students advanced to the second round of auditions for the Texas All-Region and All-State Choirs. District Auditions were held at Angleton High School on Saturday, Sept. 26. 
     Following are the students by section, and the rank within the section >>
10 qualify for Region 17 Jazz Ensembles
   At FHS, 10 students qualified for the Region 17 Jazz Ensembles, according to Jazz Director Julio Sanchez. Competition was held at Alvin Community College.
   Five include the following: David Alexander- Trumpet/Jazz 2; Bryan McCullogh- Tenor Trombone/Jazz 1; Michael Polak- Tenor Sax./Jazz 1; Josh Smith- Bass Guitar/Jazz 2; and Justin Strickland- Trumpet/Jazz 2.
   Five who advanced to area taping include the following: Cheryl Bueche- Bari. Sax/Jazz 1; Blake Disiere- Drums/Jazz 1; Erik Honore- Tenor Trombone/Jazz 1: Brian Meyer- Bass Trombone/Jazz 1;  and Scott Morse - Guitar/Jazz 1.
   A free clinic/concert will be held in November. No date has been set at this time.
FHS students to build replica of Berlin Wall
   November 9 will be the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.  To mark the occasion, the Friendswood High School German program will be "building" and "tearing down" a paper wall in the Senior Mall on campus.  Many FHS classes and clubs from across campus are involved. 
    Each class and/or club is encouraged to decorate their own piece of the Berlin Wall with something that represents their connection to the time when Eastern Europe was behind the Iron Curtain.  More >>
Organizations to sponsor pre-game dinners
WRANGLERETTES CHICK-FIL-A DINNER & SILENT AUCTION
  The dinner will be held on Friday, October 2 in the FHS cafeteria and will showcase the Fall Dance Clinic, as well as the Drill Training Class.  A silent auction will take place during the Pre-Game Dinner where attendees will have the opportunity to bid on many silent auction items.  High valued auction items include >>
CLASS OF  2011 TO HOST DINNER, PAVER PROJECT
    The FHS Junior Class invites the community to the Homecoming Pre-Game Dinner Friday, October 9 in the FHS cafeteria. From 5-7 pm, diners can enjoy chopped barbeque sandwiches, potato salad and trimmings with tea and dessert. Cost is $8 and the food will be provided by Going South Catering, Inc.
CHOIR PRE-GAME SPAGHETTI DINNER
   The FHS Choir will host a pre-game Spaghetti Dinner on Friday, Oct. 23 from 5:00-6:30 pm.  Tickets are $8; the cost includes spaghetti, salad, bread, dessert and a beverage.  Entertainment will be provided by the FHS Choirs, as well as choirs from Friendswood Junior High and Cline Elementary.  The Campus Singers will present the theme from "New York, New York" in celebration of the choir's trip to New York City during spring break of 2010.  Other songs include "Steppin' Out With My Baby," "Let Me Be There," and "Girls, Girls, Girls."
