Cline students recently went into their garden to harvest their first crop of lettuce. Hearts of romaine lettuce and a spring mix were carefully picked and brought into the school to be thoroughly washed.
As the students picked the lettuce, they commented on how they could smell the lettuce as it was being picked. Cline's resident gardeners then turned into chefs as they prepared a salad mixed with the various types of lettuce, carrots, cherry tomatoes, jicama, yellow bell peppers, and radishes. The salad was then presented to Cline teachers during their lunch. |

Cline teachers and students are so excited to take their classes to the garden to begin planting for the spring growing season. Kindergarten students are starting flowers indoors from seed and will soon be planted outdoors, first grade students are planting "tops and bottoms" such as lettuce and radishes as they are learning about different parts of the plant, second grade students are planting watermelon and a variety of vegetables, and third grade students will conduct an soil experiment growing green beans. Spring is in the air!
The Cline garden was part of a grant funded by the Friendswood ISD Education Foundation. |
