News: Conway to be Honorary Alum at Gala
posted: February 5, 2010

The award of Honorary Alumni is given posthumously to Dr. Richard M. Conway. It is with sadness that we had to say goodbye to Dr. Conway January 28, 2010. He knew he was getting this award and we celebrate his life with his family.
Dr. Conway was a strong and guiding force in Friendswood schools. For many years he served as the team doctor for the Friendswood High School football team. He traveled with the team and was always available when needed.

It was this attitude and years of service that made him the ideal choice for Honorary Alumni in the 2010 Distinguished Alumni being honored.
Born in Muscatine, Iowa, he graduated from the University of Iowa and Iowa Medical School in 1965. He married Jean Hodges two days before medical school. Their perfect match brought three daughters into the family and at this time, they have celebrated 48 years together. His daughters include Moira, Lisa and Caty. Each daughter is married with children. The Conways have nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
At England Air Force Base in Alexandria, Louisiana, Dr. Conway completed his internship for a flight surgeon in the Aero Space School of Medicine and they met neighbors Cynthia and David Hearn, friends they still have today.
In July 1968, Dr. Conway and his family moved to Friendswood. He served on the Clear Lake Regional Hospital Board as Chief of Family Medicine. He was one of the doctors that brought the first hospital to the area, serving as a founding member of Clear Lake Hospital.
Thousands of hours were spent on the sidelines during high school football games and conducting pre-season physicals for athletes.
This time spent was recognized and honored in 2003 when Dr. Conway was inducted into the Hall of Honor.
Dr. Conway supported the schools and the city. He practiced medicine tirelessly and is a fitting candidate to be an Honorary Alumni.
Conway’s trait is Citizenship. Dr. Conway was an excellent doctor, community partner, husband and dad. He served his country in the military as well as his countrymen in his medical practice. What a great example and role model for FISD students and staff! His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
