News: Hope For Haiti Carwash held in 37-degree weather
posted: February 15, 2010

Social Studies classes at Windsong Intermediate raised $1,576.40 in their efforts to help the people of Haiti by washing cars February 13, 2010.
Immediately following the devastation in Haiti, Melinda Gibson’s classes began to brainstorm on how they could help. After a few failed ideas the students stayed focused on their mission and decided to try to raise money by having a carwash.

Gibson met with Russ Hammond, the manager of HEB and explained what the students wanted to do and what she wanted them to gain by participating in the carwash. Mrs. Gibson's goal was to have her students actually "do something" for the people of Haiti and to know that they (students) would receive nothing tangible in return.
The students would leave with a warm feeling and a sense of pride knowing they accomplished their goal.
Hammond agreed immediately to assist the students. So, on Saturday, February 13, Gibson, parents and students began washing cars in 37-degree weather from 9:30 a.m. until 3 p.m.
There was a steady flow of cars all day. As the temperature rose and hands thawed out everyone left with a warm feeling in their hearts.
The students would like to thank all of the parents that supported them and Mrs. Gibson for organizing the carwash and actually teaching them how to make a difference.
The money raised will be given to UNICEF.
