News: Friendswood HS wins 2nd consecutive Lone Star Cup
posted: July 1, 2010

Friendswood High School has won its second consecutive University Interscholastic League (UIL) Lone Star Cut for 2009-2010.
Friendswood High School performed well throughout the season in athletic and music competitions, however it was the school’s victory at the State Academic Meet that sealed its second consecutive Lone Star Cup in Class 4A. Friendswood’s academic state championship was its fifth consecutive and eighth overall.
The UIL Lone Star Cup recognizes five high schools (one in each of the five UIL classifications) based on their overall team achievement in a variety of sanctioned athletic and academic championships.

All UIL member high schools in good standing are included for contention for the UIL Lone Star Cup.
The UIL Lone Star Cup program began during the 1997-98 season.
“To be recognized with a Statewide award for both academic and athletic successes is such a compliment to Friendswood ISD.  We are proud of our well-rounded program and each year we see more and more success in all areas. We congratulate our students and staff for the outstanding year we have had and we are excited to receive the coveted Lone Star Cup for a second consecutive year,” Superintendent Trish Hanks said.
