News: 27 compete, place. Advance at Galveston County Science, Engineering Fair

           Science students successfully represented Friendswood High School this weekend at the Galveston County Science and Engineering Fair.  At the event, 27 students placed in the competition, completely sweeping the Senior Division. 
           They also brought home over $1,500 in cash and prizes, including the prestigious Navy award. 

           All of these students have qualified to advance to regional competition in March. 
           In the ninth-grade division, the following students placed: Morgan Ashley: 2nd Place Biochemistry/Microbiology; Michael Laitkep: 1st Place Botany; Jacob Gruener: 1st Place Engineering & 3rd Place 9th Grade Division; Nader Asgari-Tari: 2nd Place Engineering & 2nd Place 9th Grade Division; Keith Shannon: 3rd Place Engineering; Briahna Yarberry: 1st Place Environmental Science; Steven Auzenne: 2nd Place Environmental Science; Gabrella Quintana: 3rd Place Environmental Science; Andrew Mai:  Honorable Mention Environmental Science; Ryan Bynum: 1st Place Medicine/Health & 1st Place 9th Grade Division; Rachel Goeken: 2nd Place Physics; and Matthew Laitkep:  1st Place Zoology.
           In the senior division, the following students placed: Audrye Williams: 1st Place Biochemistry/Microbiology & 5th Place Senior Division; Kristina Todd:  1st Place Chemistry;
Nathan Nguyen: 2nd Place Chemistry; Sheena Mohebalian: 1st Place Environmental Science & Honorable Mention Senior Division; Madeline Landon: 2nd Place Environmental Science & 1st Place Senior Division; Michael Gregory: 3rd Place Environmental Science; Laura Bradley: Honorable Mention Environmental Science; Rachael Moffatt:  Honorable Mention Environmental Science; Traci Bordelon: 1st Place Mathematics; Chandika Silva: 1st Place Medicine/Health & 4th Place Senior Division; Caleb Wimer: 2nd Place Medicine/Health; Ariana Rivera: 3rd Place Medicine/Health; Chelsea Coleman: Honorable Mention Medicine/Health & Recipient of the NAVA Award; Jasmine Li: 1st Place Physics & 2nd Place Senior Division; and  Corey Smith: 2nd Place Physics & 3rd Place Senior Division.
           FHS mentoring teachers for the fair included Jane Curtis, Andrea Davidson, Nicole Erfurdt, Theresa Lawrence, and Laura Peter. Dawne Welch is the 2009-2010 Science Fair Coordinator.
