The Lady Mustangs started off the week with a bang in opening up district.  The team hosted Texas City on teacher appreciation night and came away with a 2-1 win.
It became a battle of two of the top pitchers in the district, Kelly Smith from Friendswood and Crystol Alaniz of Texas City.

Friendswood was able to get two early runs in the first inning.  Amber Mills lead off the inning with a single and moved to third on a single by Carrie Flores.  Amber was able to score on a passed ball, and then Lauren Massar followed with a big two out RBI hit that fell in when the leftfielder and centerfielder did not communicate.
Kelly was able to keep Texas City off balance to earn the win.  Kelly finished with a two hitter allowing one run that was unearned and striking out 14.
Lauren Massar finished the night with two hits, and Kelsi Acosta also added a hit.
On Friday the Lady Mustangs traveled to Angleton to face the 2009 state runner-up Wildcats. It turned out to be another pitching duel, but in the end Angleton was able to earn the victory 3-0.
The Lady Stangs had numerous opportunities to score, but could not get the key hit that they needed with runners on. They stranded nine base runners.  Amber Mills had two hits, one a triple. Carrie Flores and Lauren Massar both had a hit.  Kelly finished the night by giving up six hits, three runs with only one of them earned, and striking out nine.
The Lady Mustangs now stand 12-7-1 overall and 1-1 in District.
The Offensive players of the week are Lauren Massar and Amber Mills, the Defensive player is Kelly Smith.
