News: FJH Drama Department wins at festival, performs new version of Cinderella
posted: November 9, 2009

The Drama Department at Friendswood Junior High has been busy with a festival and a production.
Recently, 29 FJH students participated in the first Theatre festival of the year held at Fairview Junior High.  FJH students returned home with 23 Superior ratings and 34 Excellent ratings.
“I am proud of the work my students presented and the many awards they brought home, “ sponsor Lana Garcia said.

FJH students who participated include Elise Adams, Kristin Annan, Kayla Archer, Brianna Banda, Brock Barringer, Alexus Blackmon, Jacob Brown, Arshi Butt, Paige Chisholm, Addison Cobb, Bradley Goodwin, Verley Hunt, Gatlin Lowe, Sydney Manning, Joseph Thomas, Madeline Mason, Nancy Philbrick, Megan Reyes, Trevor Smith, Olivia Stran, Jillian Strickland,  Jack Swanberg, Alexis Taylor, Madeleine Tiemann, Katelyn Weatherford, Shelbie Weitekamp, and Caitlyn Williamson.
The next Theatre festival will be held on Saturday, November 14th at Victory Lakes Intermediate.  Lana Garcia and Amanda Hartley sponsored the trip.
Friendswood Junior High's Theatre Arts II class also recently presented their Fall play, Cinderella and the Substitute Fairy Godmother by Ed Monk during class on October 29 and 30.
In this hilarious comedy, Cinderella calls for the help of her Fairy Godmother, only to be sent a "substitute" who messes everything up!
Cinderella must fight through her evil stepmother, brother and sister as well as a slew of random fairy tale characters who are "dropped in" by mistake to get to the ball to meet the nerdy, model-train-loving Prince Charmful.  The play was directed by Lana Garcia.
