News: FHS Band places sixth in Bands of America contest
posted: October 5, 2009

The Mighty Mustang Band competed in the Bands of America (BOA) Houston Regional at Pearland High School recently and placed sixth.
Approximately 27 bands, mostly 5A, competed in the preliminary show.
Bands of America divides bands into four classifications by enrollment in grades 10-12.

Friendswood finished third in the 3A division to Stephen F. Austin and Cedar Park and sixth overall in the prelims earning a spot in the tenth band final for that evening, according to Director Greg Dick.
This is the second consecutive year that Friendswood has made the finals.
“That night, while we were waiting on the track to march, the rains came and the contest was postponed. We had to go under the stands for almost an hour before the rain let up enough to finally march. The band students are to be commended for handling the weather situation with the highest degree of professionalism. The staff is very proud of them,” Dick said.
When the Finals concluded that evening, Friendswood finished in sixth place, three places higher than last year.
This is the highest finish by a Friendswood Band at at BOA event.
“We are extremely proud of the students accomplishment. Our next contest will be on Oct. 17 in Conroe. Thank you to everyone for your support and encouragement of the students!” Dick said.
