Kelly Stanton Beck has been named the new Friendswood High School Varsity Volleyball Coach.
Beck is currently a Special Ed inclusion/co-teacher for 7th grade Language Arts at Friendswood Junior High and she also coached the Freshman Volleyball team this past season. This is her first year to teach in FISD.
She is originally from Friendswood. After graduating college at Texas A&M University, Beck went to work at Copperas Cove High School, where she was the Freshman Volleyball coach and Special Ed teacher.
A year after that, she moved to North Carolina to be closer to her fiancé.
“I taught Special Ed and coached the JV volleyball team at Polk County High School. In July of 2010, I got married in Houston, Texas, and my husband and I decided to settle back in my hometown (Friendswood),” Beck said. “Fortunately, I was able to obtain a teaching/coaching position at Friendswood and it has been wonderful.”
Her husband is Mike Beck and her parents are Ed and Kerry Stanton of Friendswood.
“FISD is a great place to work - not only because of the excellent support coming from the community, but also because of the people I work with everyday. Everyone from administration to faculty and staff is determined to make a difference in these kid’s lives and plant a seed for their future. It is comforting to be able to come to work day in and day out, and know that you are making a difference. And the people beside you are too!” Beck said.
She has set goals already for the next year.
“There is no doubt in my mind that Friendswood Volleyball can win a state championship. That is definitely a big goal of mine and I plan on making it a big goal for the program as well. With everyone on board and a lot of hard work everyday, this goal will become a reality,” she said.
