What is one of the most anticipated social events of the spring at any high school? The Prom!
A fun event but often an expensive one as well.
For the third consecutive year, two Friendswood High School students are offering all students facing prom costs to check out Prom Angels, a shopping spot for FREE prom attire.
Friendswood High School seniors, Abbey Griffon and Macey Wegner began a program in 2009 called Prom Angels to help students reach their dreams of attending their high school prom.
“We realize that formal wear can be expensive, and with the sluggish economy, parents may not want to spend the extra money on clothing that may only be worn one time,” Griffon said.
For this reason, the two girls decided to help other prom goers by starting this program at FHS.
The two are currently collecting formal wear from the community.
“If you have prom dresses, tuxedos, evening shoes, purses and/or jewelry you wish to donate, please drop them off at Friendswood High School’s visitor’s desk located at 702 Greenbriar or at the FISD Administration Building located at 302 Laurel Drive, between now and March 5,” Wegner said.
The girls are collecting formal wear throughout their community and surrounding areas. They are hoping to help teenagers not only from Friendswood High School, but also all Galveston County area high school, Pearland High School, and Alvin High School.
The students researched the different high schools and found when all the dates were set for their proms. They wanted to make sure the free prom attire would be offered in a timely way to work for all.
Students will have two opportunities to try on the formal wear. They are invited to come Friday, March 4, from 6 - 9 pm or Saturday, March 5, from 11 am - 3 pm at the Friendswood Friends Church Fellowship Hall.
Al’s Formal Wear has also generously donated $30.00 off discount coupons for tuxedo rentals. These cards may also be picked up on the above dates.
