The Friendswood Junior High Chamber Choir Varsity Girls' Ensemble competed in the UIL Concert & Sight-reading Contest, held recently at the Clarion Theater at Brazosport College. The group brought home superior ratings for the seventh consecutive year.
The choir performed three varsity-level pieces with "brilliant, if not perfect interpretation", according to one judge; and received a rating of I, or superior, from all three concert judges.
Immediately following the concert portion of the contest, the choir then sight-sang a piece of music written for the contest and never before seen by students. The girls read and sang the new piece impeccably for the three sight-reading judges, who all also granted them a rating of I, or superior.
The distinction of six straight superior ratings, or Sweepstakes, has become a tradition of excellence for FJH Chamber Choir, as this is the seventh straight year that the choir has received this honor.
Director Melissa Smith extends her deepest congratulations to these talented students.
