News: FISD celebrates Red Ribbon Week, National Week of Character
posted: October 22, 2010

Friendswood ISD celebrated Red Ribbon Week Oct. 18-22 after a city/school send off the previous Saturday at Stevenson Park.
Principal Mark Griffon welcomed everyone to the Wrap The Town Red in the park and served as master of ceremonies, introducing the various groups and individuals involved.
Friendswood Junior High Choir performed the National Anthem under the direction of teacher Melissa Smith.
Superintendent Trish Hanks spoke to the students there and encouraged them to remain drug and alcohol free, making the right choices for their futures. Friendswood Mayor Dave Smith also addressed the students about character and Red Ribbon Week. This week is not only Red Ribbon Week but also National Character Week.
Westwood and Cline Elementary Choirs performed Forever Free under the directions of teachers Laura Rachita and Glynis David.
The Friendswood Junior High Cheerleaders performed and Griffon sent the students to place signs all over the city.
In the past, red ribbons were tied around trees around the city. New this year is the plan to place Red Ribbon Week/Drug Free Zone signs in red and white at area businesses, campuses, and locations all over the city.
During the school week, campuses chose to celebrate each day with clever themes.
