News: FJH 8A VB girls capture tournament championship at Deer Park
posted: September 20, 2010

The 8A Lady Mustang volleyball team reigned as champions throughout the Sideout Volleyball Tournament hosted by Bonnette Junior High of Deer Park ISD recently.
The girls’ performance was exhilarating as they captured the championship defeating every team they played in two sets.
The path began last Friday night with the first opponent, La Porte.  During the La Porte match, Abby Hedrick served an entire set earning a 25-0 win. It was an amazing performance, according to Coach Christina Holt.
The Mustangs continued to rally strong against a competitive Barbers Hill match later Friday evening.  The hitting power of Tricia Brown,  Blair Dressendorfer, and Rachel Barlow proved to be too much as the Mustangs sealed the win (28-26, 25-9).
On Saturday the Mustangs faced Bonnette Junior High.  Earlier in the season, Bonnette beat the Mustangs, therefore the girls were ready to avenge themselves, Holt said. Bonnettte proved to be no match for the FJH defensive players, Emma Brackett and Savannah Alaniz, as the Mustangs breezed by with a win (25-7, 25-9).
For the championship, the Mustangs faced Fairmont, who showed strong potential for the victory.  However, the middle blockers, Jana Landers and Sarah Redding, controlled the net shutting down Fairmont’s attackers.
Friendswood won the championship overtaking Fairmont 25-21, 25-14.
The Sideout Tournament is an extremely competitive with 12 teams participating.  Coach Holt is ecstatic with the team’s performance.
“This Thursday, Fairmont will come to FJH to play the Mustangs.  Come support our 8th grade volleyball teams!” Holt said.
