Varsity Football Game Thurs., Nov. 6 vs La Marque H.S.
Varsity football will NOT take place this Friday night. The game, FHS Mustangs vs. LaMarque Cougars will be played at 7 pm THURSDAY, Nov. 6 at LaMarque's stadium. The game will be aired on KTBU Channel 55, the Tube.

FHS Cross Country Teams Win

Girls and Boys Cross Country both won the District title at the recent meet in Centennial Park.

School Board Meeting Date Change
The November board meeting originally scheduled for Nov. 11
will be held Thursday, Nov. 13 in order to canvas the votes from the
School Board election Nov. 4, 2008 and to swear in new board members.

Tennis News
Friendswood Tennis advanced to the second round with a first round bye at a recent tournament. In the quarterfinal round, FHS defeated Willis 10-2. In the semi-final round, FHS defeated Foster 10-7. Unfortunately, Montgomery prevailed in the Final round 10-1, according to Coach David Cook. "We should all be proud of the kids on the team for the efforts they put in," Cook said.

FJH competes at math competition
The Mathcounts Club at Friendswood Junior High had a great showing at their first meet at First Colony Middle School October 25. Approximately 150 mathletes participated. In this math competition, students solve problems as a team. Chris Neagu, Stephen Hahn, Kathryn Kennedy, Kristen Ryan, Nathan Tat, Roma Pradham, and Nadjezhda Laird are off to a great start for the competition season. Bryan Holcomb qualified for the top countdown round in the competition. Matthew Nguyen won on an 8th place team and Sam Lu won on a 3rd place team. The next math competition is November 15 at Pershing Middle School. The Mathcounts Club is sponsored by Lisa Liverman and meets in her room every Friday morning. New members are still welcome.

Record Turnout for Halloween in the Park
Little ghosts, goblins, princesses and other characters flooded
Stevenson Park on Thursday evening for the Friendswood Chamber of
Commerce's ninth annual "Halloween in the Park" event. According to
chamber president Carol Jones, "It's amazing because we don't publicize
this event to any great extent and this was by far the largest turnout
we have ever had."

Bales sixth graders involved in Bay marsh restoration project
At Bales Intermediate in Friendswood ISD, 225 sixth graders are helping save Galveston Bay, one marsh plant at a time.

Karam honored for outstanding game EARNS U.S. ARMY ALL-AMERICAN BOWL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Quarterback Jacob Karam of Friendswood High School
was named the U.S. Army All-American Bowl Player of the Week for the
week ending November 1.
Karam, led his team to a 49-28 win over Brazosport High School, throwing for 426 yards and a remarkable seven touchdowns. "The Army is proud to recognize Jacob Karam who, like the American
Soldier, finds the inner strength to never give up until the mission is

Band UIL ninth consecutive win
Once again, the FHS Mighty Mustang Band earned the highest UIL award at contest. The band recently participated in the UIL Region 17 marching contest held in "The Rig" at Pearland High School. The Mustang Band earned "Superior Ratings" from all three judges. This is the ninth consecutive year for the FHS Band to earn the highest UIL award. The band concludes its season Nov. 1 in the Alamodome competing in the Bands of America Super Regional. The directors are Greg Dick, Julio Sanchez, Aaron Brown and Ron Barnett.

FHS wins swim meets
Friendswood High School swimmers competed in the Lamar Consolidated ISD swim meet recently. Both girls and boys' teams placed. The Girls team placed first with 369.5 points. The Boys team placed ninth out of 22 teams. The boys earned 103 points. FHS was one of only two 4A schools attending. Prior to this tournament, Girls won 202-60 and Boys won 169-105 at the LaPorte ISD swim meet. At the Sprintathlon in Angleton ISD, Girls received first place with 205 points and the Boys fourth with 66.5 points. FHS Swim Coach is John Little.

Varsity Volleyball Playoffs
Congratulations to the Varsity Volleyball team in their sweep last night of the Lamar Consolidated Mustangs. The Friendswood Volleyball team won in convincing straight sets 25-13, 25-15 and 25-12. This brings their season record to 32-10. The next playoff game will be determined after the outcome of a match tonight.
