Nine students at Friendswood High School were named semifinalists in the 54th annual National Merit Scholarship Program.  The National Merit Scholarship Program named 13 seniors as Commended Students.   Top honors belonged to the FHS Marching Band after participating in the Galena Park ISD Marching Festival held recently.
  The FHS Marching Band won First Place in Class 4A and had the highest overall score at the contest which included 17 - 5A bands.
  The Color Guard was First Runner Up out of all of the color guards at the contest and the Percussion section was chosen as   The Outstanding Percussion Section of the entire contest, according to Band Director Greg Dick.
   The band will compete in the Bands of America Regional at Pearland High School Saturday, Oct. 11.
