Drug Free Pledge
Red Ribbon Week
  Red Ribbon Week continues to be Friendswood's largest awareness activity with respect to drug use. All schools continue anti-drug education throughout the year. 
  Westwood Elementary will celebrate Hooked on Character for a Drug-free Future; Bales and Windsong Intermediates' theme is Be a Good Sport! Choose to be Drug-free. Friendswood High School will use What is your anti-drug? Hooked on Care-acter will be Cline Elementary's theme.
  Character Counts has been a focus for the district in grades kindergarten through twelfth grades. One pillar out of the six pillars of character is highlighted each month on all FISD campuses.
Revised Calendar
REVISED 2008-09 Calendar
· Oct. 13 changed to student day
· 1st nine weeks ending date changed to October 24
· 1st report card date changed to October 31.
· December 18 was changed from an early release day for JH & HS to a full day for all students K - 12
· The Nine Weeks dates have been adjusted.
· Listed under Late Arrival is for students to arrive two hours later than the scheduled campus time.

Knitting
Recess offers knitters a place for extra help
  Westwood's third-grade knitting clique, 65-members strong, are meeting in the most unusual places. 
  Their next project will be making baby hats to donate to Save the Children's Caps to the Capital Campaign.

FHS Marching Band makes finals in Bands of America contest
  The Friendswood High School Mustang Marching Band competed in the Bands of America Regional Marching Contest recently at Pearland High School.
  For the first time in the history of the school, the band made the finals of a BOA Event finishing in 9th place overall out of a field of 23 groups. Out of the 23, 98 percent were 5A schools. FHS is a 4A.
  The students had their best performance of the season to date, according to Band Director Greg Dick.
 Next the band travels to Conroe to compete in the Lone Star Preview.
  Directors of the band are Greg Dick, Aaron Brown, Julio Sanchez and Ron Barnett.
Distinguished Alum nominees needed
  The call for nominations for Distinguished Alumni from Friendswood High School has begun. The finalists will be honored at the Friendswood ISD Education Foundation's gala, A True Blue Evening, in March.

District/Region audition results celebrated by FHS Choir
  The FHS Choir students brought home honors from the Region 17 All Region Choir competition Oct. 18 at Clear Lake High School. At the competition, 73 FHS Choir students successfully auditioned for membership in the Region 17 All-Region Choirs.
