BallardKent Ballard to be Distinguished Alumni
   Fairness is a trait that is admired in successful realtor, investor, developer and former FISD School Board member Kent Ballard. He is a role model for the character trait that will be part of his honor as one of six Distinguished Alumni to be recognized by the Friendswood Education Foundation at their annual fundraiser.

8 German students place in National Exam
  Eight Friendswood High School German students have placed in the top 25 percent of German students nationwide on the German National Exam.  
   The Exam is similar to the SAT II exams and was taken this year by 26,000 students.  The FHS students listed below had scores qualifying them for national recognition, similar to 760-800 on an SAT subject area test.

WranglerettesWranglerettes win at competition
   On Valentine's Day, the Friendswood Wranglerette Drill Team gave their hearts to their first competition of the year - the Crowd Pleaser's West Houston Showcase hosted at Mayde Creek High School.  Not unlike prior years, the Wranglerettes gave an outstanding performance and returned with multiple trophies and awards.

 Girls softball at Marble Falls
   The Lady Mustang Softball team won first place recently at the Marble Falls BBQ Classic. They were 4-0-1 in the tournament.
  The Mustangs beat Fort Bend Dulles 4-2, Odessa Permian 2-0, Lehman 12-2, Marble Falls 5-3, and tied Lockhart 2-2.
  "The Friendswood girls played extremely well. Their first home game is against Clear Lake.  Come out to their games and show your support," Head Coach Kevin Parr said.
  Game times are 4:30 for JV and 6:00 for varsity.
FHS to do Great Expectations for One Act competition
   The Friendswood High School play chosen for One Act Play competition will be Great Expectations, by Charles Dickens. Director is FHS drama instructor Kathy Powdrell.

  The Freshmen and JV tennis teams competed in tournaments at Barber's Hill and Alvin recently.
  The Varsity team was undefeated at the Deer Park tournament on Friday before rain forced a cancellation of remaining matches.

Swimmers swim for gold, Ladies win 7th consecutive Region Championship
   Region qualifiers on the FHS Mustang and Lady Mustang Swim Teams swam for the Gold at the Region 6-4A Swimming Championships on Feb 13-14 at the University of Houston. It was an exciting meet and the Lady Mustangs won their 7th consecutive Region 6-4A Championship Title.

True Blue Evening True Blue Event Offers Something for Everyone
  True Blue Friendswood fans will find some exciting ways to have fun and support the Friendswood ISD educational system while they are doing it. A range of rewards from a blue Mustang replica toy pedal car to an offshore fishing trip for six or monthly floral bouquets for a whole year await the lucky high bidders at A True Blue Evening, annual fundraiser hosted by the Friendswood ISD Education Foundation.

FISD wins TSPRA awards
   Friendswood ISD Communications Department received a record-breaking amount of 2008 TSPRA Gold Stars, Silver Star, Best of Category medals and a Crystal Commendation Award.
   History was made by recipients Karolyn Gephart who is the Director of Publications, Joe Perez, Media Specialist, Videographer and TV Producer, and Laura Riveron, Executive Director of the Friendswood ISD Education Foundation.

Save date for WW Round-Up
    Everyone in the Friendswood area should mark their calendars for April 18 for the Westwood Round-Up! This annual family event is a fundraiser for the campus and a great afternoon of fun and food for everyone who attends.
    Games for children, jumping equipment, a wall to climb, face painting, and much more are in store for this year's event. A new arcade area is also planned.
    The huge baskets for raffles will return and Round-Up planners are promising bigger and better!
    Sponsorship opportunities are available and auction items for silent and live auctions are still needed.

  Students qualified for the state meet by placing first or second at the UIL Cross-Examination District meet held at Manvel High School Feb. 10 and 11, 2009.
