Dr. Hearn to be Honorary Distinguished Alumnus
Citizenship is a character trait that is showcased by Dr. David Hearn.
He is currently to be honored as an Honorary Alumni, one of six
Distinguished Alumni chosen to be honored by FHS alumni and the
Friendswood ISD Education Foundation at their annual fundraiser March
7. Dr. Hearn graduated in 1957 from Woodlawn High School in Birmingham,
Alabama. He received his BA from Birmingham Southern College and his
MD from Medical College of Alabama. He also served as a US Air Force

True Blue Excitement Builds
Friendswood Education Foundation hosts it annual True Blue Evening fundraiser on March 7 at Space Center Houston and will honor six distinguished alumni of Friendswood High School. Event Co-chairs Selena Ellis and CiCi Newkirk along with decorating chair Edwina Vidosh make adjustments to the floral arrangement for the table centerpieces. "We are so excited because we already have over 300 supporters coming and we want to be sure that they have both the fun and the elegance they deserve."

| Texas Prevention Impact Index (TPII) Survey
On March 10, all students in grades 6-12 will take the Texas Prevention Impact Index (TPII) survey. This survey is done annually and the information gathered is used to evaluate and improve programs dealing with substance abuse for our students. All student surveys are anonymous and take about 30 minutes to complete. Copies of surveys are available in the counselors' office for parents to preview. If you do not want your student to participate in the TPII please submit your request in writing to your building counselor. Thank you for your cooperation with this important survey.

Lady Mustangs win at Marble Falls BBQ Classic softball tournament
The FHS
Lady Mustang softball season started off with a big tournament win at
the Marble Falls BBQ classic recently (2/19-21). The Lady Mustangs went
4-0-1 for the best record in their division.
They beat Odessa Permian 2-0, Marble Falls 5-3, Lehman 12-2 and Fort Bend Dulles 4-2. They tied Lockhart 2-2.

Save date for WW Round-Up
Everyone in the Friendswood area should mark their calendars for April 18 for the Westwood Round-Up! This annual family event is a fundraiser for the campus and a great afternoon of fun and food for everyone who attends. Games for children, jumping equipment, a wall to climb, face painting, and much more are in store for this year's event. A new arcade area is also planned. The huge baskets for raffles will return and Round-Up planners are promising bigger and better! Westwood teacher Shawn Wyble designed the look for this year's Round-Up tee shirts. Sponsorship opportunities are available and auction items for silent and live auctions are still needed. Cline walks for Diabetes

$27,000 and counting for Cline Elementary as PE teacher Judy Shetler
continues to count donations made for their annual Walk for Diabetes
held Feb. 27 and attended by every student and teacher in the K-3 grade
campus.

FHS German competes at state
The
Friendswood HS German Program made its first ever State finish, placing
5th in the non-5A division recently in Austin. This was accomplished
by the winning of 11 students in 10 different events.
Such a win puts each of those German students in the top 1 percent of German students statewide.

| Friendswood HS Softball
The varsity softball team went 4-1 this past weekend at the El Campo tournament. They beat Yoakum 3-0, lost to Spring 1-0 in 8 innings in ITB (International Tie Breaker). Coach Kevin Parr explains, "For those that are wondering what ITB is, it is where they put a runner on second with no outs and try and score without getting 3 outs. We were unable to score and they did score." The FHS team also beat Sealy 2-1, Houston Scarborough 12-0. They finished on Saturday by beating Columbus 5-2.
