Westwood WINS!!!, Recognized as Model of Effective School Reform The
Character Education Partnership (CEP) has named seven public schools,
one charter school, one private school, and one school district as 2009
National Schools of Character.
The
winning schools demonstrate that school transformation is possible
through low-cost, high-quality character education initiatives. They
have closed the achievement gap and raised academic expectations for
all students, built strong relationships and partnerships between
parents, teachers, and students, and given their students opportunities

FHS' Great Expectations wins State Title Great Expectations, Friendswood High School University Interscholastic League (UIL) One-Act Play received first place at State competition. This is the fourth appearance to the State meet in
four years for FHS. This is the school's 16th appearance to the state
meet: 12 appearances with director Kathy Powdrell.

Val, Sal named at Friendswood High School for 2009 Allison Piwetz and Abigail Wolff, graduating seniors at Friendswood
High School, have been named Valedictorian and Salutatorian for the
Class of 2009. Piwetz will attend Rice University to pursue a
career in energy or genetics research. She received a Moody Honors
Scholarship for $500, National Merit Scholarship for $2500 and Hispanic
Heritage Youth Award for $1000.
She is the daughter of Martin and Maria Piwetz.
Wolff
will attend Texas A&M in College Station to pursue a degree in
Chemical Engineering and Veterinary Medicine. She received a Moody
Honors Scholarship for $800, National Merit Scholarship for $2500,
Forresters Scholarship for $8000 and a Texas A&M Scholarship or
$13,500. She is the daughter of Richard and Lynda Wolff.

FHS student receives scholarship from National Merit FHS student Joseph Street is the recipient of the National Achievement Chevron Corporation Scholarship for $2,500. The National Achievement Scholarship Program, which exists specifically to honor talented Black Americans, is conducted by National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). This scholarship is sponsored by the Chevron Corporation. Street will attend Texas A&M University and this scholarship will be offered for his use at this educational institution. "We send our best wishes for your continued success," Timothy E. McGuire, President of the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, said.

Glasgow competes in State gymnastics FHS gymnast, Melissa Glasgow competed at State contest in gymnastics recently.
Glasgow
qualified for state on Bars, Beam, Vault and the All Around and
competed at the Texas High School State Gymnastics Championships in
Garland.
She placed twenty-sixth All Around out of 128 gymnasts that competed in the two-day competition.
At the high school regional gymnastics meet in College Station, the Friendswood High School Gymnastics team placed fifth.
Glasgow placed seventh on Bars, eighth on Beam, ninth on Vault, and seventh All Around at the regional meet.
The top ten on each event and top eight All Around qualify for the state meet.
