News: Astros to visit Westwood as result of essay win
posted: April 22, 2009

The Houston Astros and Whataburger recently informed staff members and the principal that Westwood Elementary School has been chosen as one of four winning schools in the Astros Fielder’s Choice program.

Westwood’s students’ stellar performance in the essay contest, addressing the issue of making the right choices, is the reason why the Astros and Whataburger will be making an appearance at their school on Friday, May 8, 2009.

The assembly-style visit will consist of a brief address on the importance of making the right choices by an Astros player and broadcaster, a question and answer session with the students, and if time permits some baseball trivia.

In addition to hosting this event, Westwood will be awarded a total of 500 tickets to either the June 23 or June 24 game between the Houston Astros and Kansas City Royals.

These tickets are a reward for participation in the Fielder’s Choice program and performance excellence.

“We are so excited about having the Astros visit Westwood,” Principal Lynn Hobratschk said. “We are also very proud of our students knowing how to make the right choices and winning the essay contest on the topic.”
