Trustee Mike Shaw

            The Aerospace community impacts everyone in this area, including FISD. Board member Mike Shaw works for The Boeing Company in its Space Exploration Strategic Planning and Business Development organization.
            Shaw has been a resident of Friendswood for 40 years and is a graduate of Friendswood High School. Upon graduation from Texas Tech with a BS in Engineering, he returned to Friendswood to begin a career in the Aerospace field.
            Elected for his first term in 1998, Shaw has continued to serve for 13 years in Position 1 and has held a variety of offices. His term will end in 2012.
            Shaw and his wife Sandy have three children: Courtney (23), Shelby (17), and Catherine (13). He has served as a Youth basketball coach, a part of the Clear Creek Elementary Mentoring Program, and the Board liaison on the Friendswood ISD Education Foundation.

Why Shaw joined the Board: I believe that I bring a prospective of someone who was raised in the community, and understood its traditions and citizens’ expectations. I want to move the district forward with common sense approaches and improvements that the students and taxpayers would benefit from.

What does he hope to accomplish: I hope to continue the traditional level of excellence that our community has come to expect and to continue to push for the highest academic results. I focus on maximizing student participation in extra curricular activities, believing that it is a key to the long term success of our students and our district.
I also believe that the level of parent participation in the educational process, a highly motivated staff, and great kids are the keys to FISD’s success.
