RESIDENCY & INTRADISTRICT TRANSFERS

RESIDENT STUDENTS
Students shall be assigned to the campus in the attendance zone in which they reside. Transportation shall be provided between home and school.

Students in grades K-6 who are attending a District school and move to another school attendance area during the year may continue to attend the school where they were initially enrolled for the remainder for the current year. Transportation will be the responsibility of the parents.

CHILDREN OF DISTRICT EMPLOYEES
Children of District employees may attend the campus where their parent teaches. If this assignment is in their nonresident zone, employees shall follow the procedures for requesting a student intradistrict transfer.

Children of nonresident employees shall be allowed to attend District schools tuition-free. The employee may request his or her child's attendance zone and shall be given priority status, but requested placement is not guaranteed. Nonresident employees must follow the procedures for requesting a student intradistrict transfer.

In both cases, transportation shall be the employee's responsibility.

INTRADISTRICT TRANSFERS
The District transfer committee, as designated by the Superintendent, may authorize the intradistrict transfer of a student upon written request by the parents with the understanding that transportation shall be provided by the parents. Projected class sizes, building enrollments, the demographic balance of each zone, dependability of parent transportation, District employment, family hardship, attendance of siblings, and permanence of request shall be considered with each request.

Students whose residence faces a street that is a boundary line may be granted a transfer request and if granted, transportation will be provided.

The Superintendent may assign any student from one school facility or classroom within the District to another facility or classroom within the District if such transfer benefits the District or is needed to meet a student's individualized needs. In such assignments, transportation may be provided.

DATES TO REQUEST INTRADISTRICT TRANSFERS
The District shall consider intradistrict transfer requests, or requests by employees, beginning April 1 and ending May 15. Residents moving into the District and employees hired after that date may be considered individually.

PARENT APPEAL
Parents may appeal the decision of the District Transfer Committee to the Superintendent. The final level of appeal rests with the Board.

Upon receipt of a written appeal [see FDB(LEGAL)] to transfer a child from one attendance zone to another attendance zone, the following criteria shall be considered:
1. Overcrowding at sending and receiving schools.
2. Size of sending the receiving schools.
3. Demographic balances of each zone.
4. Dependability of parent transportation.
5. Permanence of request. (The student must remain for the full school year.)
