FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT

Welcome to the Friendswood Independent School District. We are privileged to have talented and dedicated teachers, parents who value and support education, students who are ready to learn, and a strong curriculum. These ingredients add up to success.

Our goal is to take our efforts to a higher level and demonstrate to the nation just what is possible!  Friendswood ISD is a unique school district. We are located next door to the fourth largest city in the United States and surrounded by large school districts. We live in a Disney World of Science.

The Johnson Space Center, the premiere medical center in Houston, the petrochemical industries, and major universities are all located in our backyard. These provide countless resources for us to access in the process of preparing our students to meet the demands of an ever changing world. The size of our District allows us to maintain personal relationships with our students and reap the benefits a large metropolitan area has to offer.

The Friendswood community has its origins as a settlement of Quakers who valued education. The community has a long history of supporting its schools and continues to do so today. Just attend any sporting event, choir or drama performance, and notice the hundreds of parents, friends, and staff cheering on the students. On any given day, one may see as many parent volunteers on a campus as faculty and staff. Young people certainly "hear" the message we voice when we demonstrate our support through active involvement. I encourage you to continue to be involved in your children's education by participating in the many activities available for parents.

We cannot approach formal education as teaching only skills. The educational institution in this country also plays a role in producing good citizens. Twenty years ago, the Board of Education mandated identified character traits to be emphasized in FISD schools and integrated into the instructional program whenever appropriate. Please review the attributes chosen to be included in our
Character Education by accessing that information through this website.

In closing, I hope you will join us as partners in making FISD an exceptional place to learn. As you browse through this web site, I welcome your suggestions for improvement.
