C.W. Cline Elementary provides its students with a challenging curriculum designed to engage them while meeting their individual needs. Our curriculum features vertical and horizontal teaming, performance based activities, take home readers, benchmarks for grades 2-3 for reading, math and science, a supplemental reading program, S.E.A.R.C.H. for GT students and a Special Education program for identified students. Our counselor works with individual students and groups of students to promote good character traits and skills for success. Regardless of our students’ abilities, there is a program to meet their needs.
Language Arts
Language arts is an integrated course that encompasses reading, writing, grammar, spelling and speech. The TEKS are the core of all instruction.
Mathematics
Mathematics is a developmentally appropriate curriculum that utilizes manipulatives and higher level math processes. It places emphasis on problem solving and addresses all State required TEKS.
Science/Health
Students enjoy a state-of-the-art science lab. This is a very successful addition to our state’s requirement for science/health.
Social Studies
Social Studies units focus on community, state, and finally, world information. Friendswood’s rich Quaker heritage is a great backdrop for student learning.
Library
Cline has a fully-equipped automated library, TEKS required curriculum, and Bluebonnet/ Caldecott/Newbery Award books in its collection. A research room is located next to the library and includes both print and internet resources.
Art
A wide range of art media is used to explore the master artists. Drama and literature are incorporated into art.
Music
Students are treated as musicians in an interactive music classroom and are presented with grade-appropriate opportunities for listening, performance, creative, and compositional problem solving. While vocal performance is a cornerstone of instruction, the classroom boasts a full keyboard laboratory and a wide variety of tonal and atonal musical instruments for each student. Musicians are given the opportunity to perform regularly for their peers and in the community. Musical experiences at Cline are designed to encourage and promote music as a vehicle for personal expression.
Physical Education
A developmentally appropriate program directs the non-competitive activities. A wide range of skills are addressed to expose our children to all the possibilities of physical fitness.
Technology
Cline has two fully equipped computer labs to facilitate for technology curriculum standards. Each classroom has computers for students to reinforce skill development. Our PTO uses fundraiser monies to purchase computers for our school.
