Instructional Program:
Windsong Intermediate provides students with a challenging curriculum designed to engage students while meeting their individual needs. Throughout their daily schedules, students receive instruction in reading/language arts, math, science, and social studies. Technology is integrated in all core subjects. In addition, Windsong offers instruction in Physical Education, art and music/choir. Windsong also has a well stocked library, two computer labs, a program for gifted and talented students, a reading improvement program and a full continuum of services for students with special needs.
Academic Teaming:
Classes at Windsong are set up in a pod format. There are five pods with six classes in each pod. In fourth grade pods, students can be in a self-contained classroom or on a team of two core teachers. In fifth grade students are on a team of either two or three core teachers. Each pod also has a mini-computer lab with five computers in the center.
Art
Windsong has a certified art teacher who offers students developmentally appropriate concepts concerning art. The emphasis is hands-on as students explore a wide variety of art media. Students receive instruction every other day.
Music
Fourth and fifth grade students develop level appropriate music skills through singing, playing instruments, movement, listening and learning music theory.
Choir
Fourth and fifth grade students can be part of an extracurricular choir. All students take part in either the fall or spring concerts.
Physical Education
Windsong has a certified PE teacher and paraprofessional who focus on a developmentally appropriate physical education program where students learn about fitness and a variety of physical activities and sports in a non-competitive environment.
SEARCH
SEARCH is a class offered for those students who have been identified as gifted and talented. In addition, the SEARCH teacher works with all teachers on enrichment activities. Students are serviced in a pull-out program at least three days a week.
SRP
SRP is a class offered to students who are identified as needing reading remediation. Students receive small group instruction four days a week for 45 minutes per day.
