Letter from our Counselor : Counseling Schedule : Parenting Tips : A Successful Partnership

Character Pledge: I pledge to be a Kid for CHARACTER. I will be worthy of TRUST. I will be RESPECTFUL and RESPONSIBLE, doing what I must. I will always act with FAIRNESS. I will show that I CARE. I will be a good CITIZEN, and always do my share.

Thoughts become WORDS,

WORDS become ACTION,

ACTIONS become CHARACTER.

CHARACTER is EVERYTHING!

MAY - CITIZENSHIP
"I must do something" always solves more problems than "Something must be done." - Unknown

CHARACTER COUNTS! is the most widely implemented approach to character education. It's a nonprofit, nonpartisan, nonsectarian framework that teaches the Six Pillars of Character: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship.

Gentle Giants share Character Education by Barbara Gruener
In-Flight Productions flew into Cline on Friday carrying a powerful character message using exotic birds.
Trainer Michael Lyle from Magnolia brought his colorful feathered friends Casey, Murphy, Coco, Astro, and Charlie to share with students that being a person of good character will help them take flight in life.
The presentation included reminders like "to have a friend, you've got to be a friend," and "even if you're different, well, that's okay!" and involved a little audience participation. Lyle said that his time spent training these birds has taught him that even the strongest player, like the quarterback in football, for example, can't do much without the help and support of his teammates. Training also makes him appreciate the role of a coach, citing how often teams fall apart without strong leadership.
During a question and answer session at third-grade lunch, Lyle told students that these birds can cost anywhere from $500 to several thousand, but that each one is special and he wouldn't sell them for any amount of money. What an inspirational way to kick off Character Counts!/Red Ribbon Week.

Nana Puddin'
September 13, 2007

The "Grease Monkey Garage" was a show that helped students learn about character. Mr. Lee with Nana Puddin Productions gave the students examples of ways to lift up their lives, find one good thing everyday about themselves, and to find PEACE in our world. In life, choices bring good consequences or bad consequences! The journey is up to each individual. During the show, a broken down car is used as a vehicle for teaching students how to "get up and go in the right direction." In order to get headed on down that road, students learned to FUEL the tank, FILL up the tires, FIX the engine and FOLLOW the map. "The Grease Monkey Garage" gave students new tools and ideas on how to repair their own engines. The show also gave a big push for community spirit, hard work, and accomplishment. Cline appreciates our PTO for helping us bring this presentation to our campus.
 Progress Reports

FJH Counselor speaks about bullying
Lisa Cudd, counselor at Friendswood Jr. High, recently presented a workshop, Bullying Words Can Hurt, to the teachers at Cline Elementary. The workshop introduced bullying strategies to implement within the classroom. Cline teachers will continue to provide a safe environment within the school so students feel comfortable communicating their feelings to their peers and teachers.

Dear Parents,

Progress reports will soon be coming home with your students.

Please remember this is just a progress report. We are just beginning down the road of learning. Remember to continue practicing reading and math skills at home daily. Also, if you have any questions or concerns, contact the teacher to discuss any issues.

Conferencing information for parents:

Remember teachers and parents often see the student from very different prospectives.

Some areas to discuss with your classroom teacher:

* What are my child's strengths and weaknesses?
* Is my child involved in any special instruction?
* Ask about reading and math strategies to use at home to improve on skills.
* Grading requirements?
* Policy on homework?
* Are there any special problems relating to discipline or socialization?
* How well does my child communicate?
* What are the learning objectives during the current 9-week grading period?
* Is my child motivated?
* What specific suggestions for improvement does the teacher have for my child?
