RHAPSODY IN BLUE GALA
Six Pillars of Character to be incorporated
in Rhapsody in Blue gala
In Friendswood ISD, learning and success go far beyond test scores
and accountability ratings. Since 1987, students have been benefiting
from a character curriculum taught throughout the District at
all grade levels.
FISD's curriculum is based on the six Pillars
of Character, developed by the Josephson Institute. The pillars
are Caring, Citizenship, Fairness, Responsibility, Respect, and
Trustworthiness.
Teachers weave lessons about the pillars into
classroom activities, and beginning this year, the Friendswood
ISD Education Foundation will recognize FISD graduates to represent
the characteristics of the Pillars of Character. The alumni will
serve as the centerpiece at the Foundation's first annual Rhapsody
in Blue Distinguished Alumni gala and each will be invited to
visit schools and speak with students.
A poster of the current year's pillars will
hang in all classrooms in FISD to remind students that everyone
has the potential to be a Pillar of Character.
Pillars can be nominated by anyone in the
community by completing the pillars nomination form. All nominees
must be FHS graduates.
For more information, call the FISD Education
Foundation office at 281-482-1267.
