READING IMPROVEMENT

Various programs are offered district-wide to help students experiencing reading difficulties. Each of the reading programs described below have specific admission criteria. At each campus, a group of professionals knowledgeable about your child and his/her needs will determine if a special reading program is needed and may recommend one of the following.

Dyslexia:
A multisensory supplemental reading program is provided to meet the individual needs of students diagnosed as dyslexic. If you suspect that your child is dyslexic, contact your campus principal or assistant principal for further information.
Title 1 Reading:
A federally funded program for reading improvement offered at Westwood Elementary and Bales Intermediate. Students are selected based on achievement and class performance in reading. Contact your child's teacher or school counselor for more information.
Supplemental Reading:
Students who are experiencing significant difficulty in reading may meet the criteria for participating in this program currently offered at grades K-8. Students are selected based on achievement and class performance.
