News: FHS students advancing to State UIL Academic Meet

            Friendswood High School students not only scored well at the Regional UIL Academic tests recently but the majority of those who entered are advancing to State.
            The UIL Computer Science team was the only team at Regionals to sweep the entire programming packet by solving all 12 problems to win the programming portion of the contest by 175 points. Each team member also placed on the individual test. The computer science team contributed 63 points to the 303 points that Friendswood accumulated for the 4A Regional win.

            Andrew Wiley had a perfect score on the test and won first place individual test.
            Noah Kessler placed second, Winston Wu third and Kyle Wiley placed fifth place on the individual test.
            In Computer Applications, Winston Wu won first place, Andrew Wiley placed second and Noah Kessler received third place.
         In Informative Speaking, Cailey Fitzgerald placed third and Elliott Landon placed fourth.
            In Literary Criticism, Lesleigh Balkum placed first while Lindsay Bonnen received second place.             Four students placed in Mathematics. Winston Wu won second with Noah Kessler in fourth, Brandon Chao in fifth place and Adam Coleman in sixth place.
            In Number Sense, Nicole Bui placed second.
            In Prose Interpretation, Teagan Batts placed fifth.
            In Ready Writing, Cailey Fitzgerald placed second.
            Bryan Nguyen placed first in Biology.
            Brandon Taylor received first place in Chemistry and first place in Physics.
            In Science, Bryan Nguyen placed second and Taylor Farrington placed fourth.
            Three students placed in Spelling and Vocabulary. Noah Kessler placed second, Kaitlyn Gruener and Winston Wu tied for fourth place.
            In Team Events, the Computer Science team placed first,  Literary Criticism placed first, One Act Play received first place, Mathematics placed second, Science Team placed first, and Spelling and Vocabulary placed second.
            State contest is in Austin at the University of Texas in May.
