Superintendent Trish Hanks welcomed the staff and introduced the luncheon chair and Foundation Director Nona Landers. Landers served as the mistress of ceremonies and welcomed two keynote speakers, master teacher and FHS drama teacher Kathy Powdrell and 2008 FHS graduate and sophomore at Princeton, Alexandra Landen.
Powdrell provided teaching tips and gave the new personnel ways to set their stage for teaching and provide applause during the school day. Teamwork and a family atmosphere are all part of FISD and each campus will soon become the new staff’s home.
Landen thanked FISD faculty K-12 for impacting her life and preparing her for the goal of engineering at Princeton. She named role models by name and shared her appreciation for items provided by the Education Foundation that touched her educational career. Known for academics as well as athletics, Landen was FHS Valedictorian in 2008.
The new staff were welcomed by Mayor Dave Smith as well as Education Foundation President Guy Crouch. The Rev. Ralph Hobratschk from Hope Lutheran Church provided the invocation.
Lunch was provided by Joe’s Barbecue with desserts by Gulf Coast Educators Federal Credit Union and beverages by Aramark, under the director of FISD Food Director Joseph Fitzgerald. The FHS Wranglerettes were major underwriters for the event.
