News: Westwood asked to do character posters
posted: August 24, 2009

Westwood Elementary School is the ONLY Texas school to be honored as a national award winner by the National School of Character organization. The Texas Education Agency lists 9,264 public schools across the State of Texas -- only one, Westwood Elementary School, was named as one of 10 schools in America worthy of the distinction as a National School of Character.

Recently, Westwood was contacted and congratulated by Inter-State Studio organization who thanked them for their dedication and service they provide to one of the nation's greatest assets - the next generation.
Over the past year, Inter-State Studio’s  corporate office in Sedalia, Missouri has worked closely with CHARACTERplus (http://info.csd.org), a division of cooperating School districts in the St. Louis, Missouri area.
These districts weave character education throughout the school day, integrating it into discipline policies, after school activities and reform initiatives and many of those schools are  customers of Inter-State Studios.
Their St. Louis office noticed the difference made with the CharacterPlus program and began a pilot program whereby they worked with area schools to create a series of school-generated posters to illustrate character traits (see attached). The program has now been put into place and our customer schools will now have a choice of the Total School Portrait (TSP) or a series of character posters with their Platinum School Partnership.
Westwood has received confirmation that they have been selected to receive both the TSP and a collection of up to 12 posters to honor their school.
