Students have been collecting items such as beef jerky, puzzles, games, coffee, and other items soldiers would need or want all week to pack and send to troops overseas.
Westwood Counselor Barbara Gruener had all of the grades write letters to the soldiers to include with the items.
“We put them all together in the cafeteria on Tuesday morning to pack the boxes. We were thrilled to have a soldier's wife and baby come along with another soldier's mother to speak to the children about how meaningful these boxes will be to them,” Gruener said.
“It's a wonderful way to teach the kids about the spirit of giving!” Gruener added.
The project is part of a special video Joe Perez is creating to highlight the community and holiday spirit of the children. When completed the video will be shown repeatedly on Channel 16. |
