News: FHS Swimming & Diving dominates District 24-4A Championship Meet

           The Mustang and Lady Mustang Swimming and Diving teams once again dominated the District 24-4A Championship Swim meet on February 4 and 5.
           The Friendswood teams won the overall meet with a combined team score of 408 points, well ahead of second place team, Dawson, who scored 171 points.

           Individually, the Lady Mustangs finished first in the women’s team rankings by a score of 246 over Angleton’s women who scored 94 for second place.
The Mustangs finished first in the men’s team rankings with 162 points over 2nd place finisher Dawson. It was the 11th consecutive District Championship Trophy for the Lady Mustangs and the ninth for the Mustangs.
          In addition to the victory, Coach John Little was named District 24-4A Boys Swimming Coach of the Year & Girls Swimming Coach of the Year and Coach Sophie Wostal was named Girls Diving Coach of the Year.
          Lady Mustang swimmer, Melissa Watson, was announced as the District 24-4A Female Swimmer of the Year and Lady Mustang diver, Alyssa Van Vooren, was awarded the Female Diver of the Year honors.
          District 24-4A Meet Records were broken by Alexandria Taylor who broke her own meet record of 5:32.83 in the 500 Free with a swim of 5:29.76 and Melissa Watson who broke her own previous meet record of 1:09.17 in the 100 Breast with a new time of 1:06.82 and the 400 Free Relay Team of Kelsey Castro, McKenna Harclerode, Melissa Watson and Meagan Westhoven who swam a time of 3:52.39 to break the previous meet record of 3:57.44 set in 2008 by FHS.
          The top six swimmers and divers in each event at the District 24-4A Championship advanced to the Region 6-4A Championship Meet.
          Lady Mustang Gold Medal winners include the following: 1 Mtr Diving – Alysa Van Vooren; 200 Medley Relay – Rachel Cragin, Melissa Watson, Meagan Westhoven & Lauren Lundquist; 200 Free - Melissa Watson; 200 IM – Meagan Westhoven; 100 Fly - Rachel Cragin; 500 Free - Alexandria Taylor; 200 Free Relay – Rachel Cragin, McKenna Harclerode, Lauren Lundquist and Hailey Lutz; 100 Back – Kelsey Castro; 100 Breast - Melissa Watson; and 400 Free Relay - Kelsey Castro, McKenna Harclerode, Melissa Watson and Meagan Westhoven.
            Lady Mustang Silver Medal winners included the following: 1 Mtr Diving – Grace Moore; 200 Free - Alexandria Taylor; 50 Free – Hailey Lutz; 100 Free – McKenna Harclerode; 500 Free – Sarah Corpening; and 100 Back – Rachel Cragin.
          Lady Mustang Bronze Medal winners included the following:
50 Free – Lauren Lundquist; 100 Fly – Julia Maloy; 100 Back – Mady Maloy; and  100 Breast – Meagan Westhoven.
           Gold Medal winners for the Mustangs included the following: 200 Medley Relay – Philip Stevens, Jared Maloy, Alec Maloy and Daniel Rockey; 100 Back – Philip Stevens; 100 Breast – Jared Maloy; and 400 Free Relay – Cameron McInnis, Nick Bowen, Michael Tomerlin and Daniel Rockey.
           Silver Medal winners for the Mustangs included the following: 200 IM – Taylor Watson; 50 Free – Jared Maloy; 100 Free - Daniel Rockey; and 100 Back – Michael Tomerlin.
          Bronze Medal winners for the Mustangs included the following: 200 Free – Daniel Rockey; 200 IM – Philip Stevens; 100 Free – Nick Bowen; and 500 Free - Taylor Watson.
          The following Lady Mustang swimmers also qualified to move on to the Region 6 Championship Meet: 200 Free - Kelsey Castro (4th);  200 IM - Mady Maloy (4th); Taylor Kukulinski (5th); Kristyn Cox (6th);  50 Free - McKenna Harclerode (4th); 100 Fly - Brittany Philbrick (4th); Chandler Metcalf (5th); 100 Free - Lauren Lundquist (4th); Hailey Lutz (5th); 500 Free - Alana Semple (4th); Julia Maloy (5th); 100 Back - Morgan Upchurch (4); and 100 Breast - Kristyn Cox (5th).
           The following Mustang swimmers also qualified to move on to the Region 6 Championship Meet: 200 Free - Nick Bowen (4th); Will Kibikas (5th); Cameron McInnis (6th); 200 IM - Kyle Mitchell (5th); Dean Burse (6th); 100 Fly - Dean Burse (4th); Alec Maloy (5th); Michael Tomerlin (6th); 500 Free - Cameron McInnis (4th); Will Kibikas (5th); and 200 Free Relay - Philip Stephens, Jared Maloy, Alec Maloy, Nick Bowen (4th).
           The Region 6 Championship Swimming & Diving Meet was held at the University of Houston Recreation Center Pool on Friday, February 5 (prelims) and Saturday, February 6 (finals).
