After the earthquake in Haiti, Windsong Intermediate students and staff started brainstorming ideas on how they could help.
As often happens, students took the lead. They expressed their desire to do something and Melinda Gibson's carwash, daily student announcements, presentations to extension classes, and a large collection jar in the cafeteria for extra snack and ice cream money donations followed. |

Students collected $911.05 which will be donated to the Red Cross for Haiti and of course Gibson's Social Studies classes' carwash raised $1576.40 for UNICEF.
That's a total of $2487.45 donated from Windsong.
The students mentioned below were intent from the beginning that they wanted their classmates and themselves to give up something in order to help--whether it was their ice cream for the day or a day of work at the carwash. They didn't want it to just be something their parents gave them.
For thee weeks in February students at Windsong Intermediate donated their snack money for the benefit of the survivors of the earthquake in Haiti. This week Windsong will present a check to the American Red Cross for $911.05. This is in addition to the $1576.40 that Mrs. Gibson's social studies classes donated to UNICEF from their Hope for Haiti Carwash held February 13.
Windsong would like to give special thanks to Mrs. Gibson's classes for their carwash, Mrs. April Darling and her family for providing an incentive at the beginning of the drive, and to 5th grade students, Nadia Asgari-Tari, Maddie Thompson, and Avery Strahm for their leadership in the drive. Windsong students have truly shown that they care about others.
Windsong's next step in its effort to help Haiti is to challenge other schools in FISD to raise at least $1 per student for the people of Haiti. That was Windsong's original goal and students have far exceeded it.
