Canada and Petri discussed their goals with players, parents and Coach Chandler and determined that a large Mustang Horsepower banner (similar to the football stadium banner) should be created and hung in the boys’ gym prior to the big challenge game with La Marque on Friday night. This meant securing funding, finding production and photography sources, facilitating the process and meeting the game deadline.
Paige Plaia of Paige Plaia Photography donated the photography session and Debra and Dusty Bridwell of Fast Signs assured a lightning fast turn-around time for producing the banner. Seniors Mark Garza, Connor Neuman and Byron Randle were chosen as “Senior Leaders” and everything went into “fast forward” as Paige “shot” the photos, “passed the ball” to the Bridwells for production who “turned it over” to Rick Canada who “made the half-court press” when he hung the banner on Friday morning just in time for the Friday night game.
Karla and Julie remember seeing the football banner and thinking “Our basketball players are natural leaders and we need to focus on them with a banner of our own. We have a great group of parents who have really stepped up to help us raise funds to make things happen.”
In addition to the new Mustang Horsepower banner hanging in the boys’ gym, Dave Petri was a “driving force” by volunteering his time to set up a much needed new sound system for the gym “before the buzzer”. Canada and Petri explain that parents have also helped to create a major facelift for the boy’s varsity locker room; to upgrade the annual basketball banquet; and to support other Friendswood Basketball programs through hosting a Mini- Camp for young basketball players aspiring to become better players. They are also currently selling $5 raffle tickets at all home games for a $1,000 VISA card. The winning ticket will be drawn at the home game on February 5, 2010. |
