Despite the heavy 5A and 4A competition, both Friendswood High teams combined to win the overall meet with a total score of 716.5 points, well ahead of 2nd place overall team, Cypress Ridge, who scored 471 points.
Individually, the Lady Mustangs finished first in the women’s team rankings by a score of 512 over Deer Park’s women who scored 213. The Mustang men placed fourth in the men’s team rankings with 204.5 points.
In addition to the victory, Lady Mustang swimmer, Melissa Watson, broke the Alvin Classic Invitational Meet Record in the 100 Breaststroke, winning the event with a time of 1:09.39 to break the record previously set by Clear Creek swimmer Kacie Baker in 2007 (1:09.61).
Gold medals in the 200 Medley Relay A were won by Kelsey Castro, Melissa Watson, Rachel Cragin and Hailey Lutz. Melissa Watson took gold in the 200 Free. Rachel Cragin received a gold medal in the 100 Fly and Alexandria Taylor received a gold medal in the 100 fly and 500 Free.
In the 200 Free Relay, Melissa Watson, Lauren Lundquist, Hailey Lutz and Rachel Cragin won gold medals. Rachel Cragin received gold for 100 Back and Melissa Watson won her medal for 100 Breast. Gold medals in the 400 Free Relay were won by McKenna Harclerode, Lauren Lundquist, Kelsey Castro and Alexandria Taylor.
Bronze medals were won in the 200 Medley Relay B by Alana Semple, Kristyn Cox, Mady Maloy and McKenna Harclerode.
Taylor Watson received a bronze medal for the 500 free.
The Lady Mustangs are undefeated except for the Lamar Consolidated Invitational Meet. And that loss in early November was by only 2 points, 417 to 415 with several of their key swimmers out for the SAT Test or out due to illness or injury.
District swim meet is February 5, 6 pm at Texas City.
