During the week of February 22-26, the library and both fourth grade pods were transformed into a western setting where students enjoyed a week of exciting activities intended to review writing techniques in preparation for the TAKS Writing test.
During morning sessions in the Ranch House, campers were led by the Camp Directors as they recited the camp pledge and sang some camp songs. FHS cheerleaders taught students the camp cheer and special invited guests told stories and read books to the group.
During afternoon Campsite Gatherings in the Corrals, students participated in lessons in TAKS writing skills, then reported to their assigned Bunkhouses for each day’s writing assignment.
To end each day, the students gathered once again in the Ranch House for closing activities. The week culminated on Friday afternoon with 11 campers reading one of their own stories to the entire group.
“The students have a lot of fun participating in this week of review for the TAKS writing test. By the end of the week, most are feeling more confident and are motivated to do their best,” Camp coordinator and Bales teacher Inga Cain said.
