This past week the Lady Mustangs Softball Team went 5-1. They beat Clear Lake on Wednesday night behind the 2 hit, 11 strikeout pitching performance of Kelly Smith.
The hitting stars were Lauren Massar with 2 hits and scored the only run in the 5th inning.  Also gathering hits was Caitlyn Garivey, and Rylie Kohls.  Kelsi Acosta knocked in the only run that the Lady Mustangs would need in the 5th.
The Lady Mustangs opened up play in the Pearland-Haynie Spirit Strike out Cancer Tournament on Thursday by defeating Pearland Dawson 2-1 behind the pitching of Lauren Massar who gave up one earned run while striking out 10.  At the plate, Friendswood scored 2 runs in the 4th on a single by Lindsey Davis who had two hits in the game, she came around to score on the double by Lauren Massar, and then Lauren scored on the rbi singel by Caitlyn Garivey that would be all the runs Lauren would need as she held on to win when Dawson threatened in the bottom of the 7th. This runs Lauren's record 2-2 on the year.
Next Friendswood played Alief Hastings and won 11 to 1.  Kelly Smith got the win striking out 13 the run was unearned.  The Lady Mustangs scored 3 runs in the 3rd, 2 in the 4th, 2 in the 6th, and finished with 4 in the 7th.Hitting stars in this game were:  Amber Mills 2 hits one run scored, Kelsey Eubanks 1 hit one run scored, Lindsey Davis 2 hits 2 runs scored,
Lauren Massar 2 hits 2 runs scored, 2 RBI's one of the hits was a double, Sabrina Yates 2 hits 3 RBI's and a double as one of the hits, Kelsi Acosta 1 hit one run scored, Aimee Fifield scored a run, Jackie Dubcak 3 hits scored 2 runs and had 2 RBI's. In all the Mustangs had 14 hits
Next up came a tough game against Barbers Hill the game was scoreless until the bottom of the 6th when Barbers Hill was able to lead off with a bunt single, on the ensuing batter a bunt was laid down but an error on the play allowed the runner from first to come all the way around to score when the errant throw got by the right fielder as well.  Barbers Hill then squeezed home the second run of the inning to go up 2-0.  Offensively the Lady Mustangs were only able to get 3 hits.  Those hits came from Amber Mills, Kelsey Eubanks each with a single and a double from Lauren Massar.  Mustangs could never put it all together.  Kelly Smith took the loss while striking out 8. The runs were unearned.  This was Kelly's first loss of the year.
The Lady Mustangs came back with a vengeance against Kingwood Park by beating the panthers 13 to 1.  Kelly Smith got the win by striking out 9 giving up one earned run.
Offensively the Mustangs were led by Rylie Kohls 5 rbi performance including her first home-run of the year a three run shot that put the game away in the 4th. Others contributing were Amber Mills with 2 hits, 2 runs scored and 2 rbi's, Kelsey Eubanks 3 hits 3 runs scored 2 rbi's and double as one of those hits, Lindsey Davis had 3 hits, scored 2 runs and had 2 rbi's, Aimee Fifield 2 hits, 2 runs scored, and Kesi Acosta scoring 2 runs, and Missy Jesionowski scoring a run.
The last game of the tournament was against the Deer Park Lady Deer Friendswood fell behind 2-0 going into the bottom of the 6th inning where they finally were able to put it all together by scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the inning and claim the victory.  Lauren Massar lead of the 6th with a single her second hit of the game the first was a double which we left her stranded.  Lauren was forced out at second on a bunt that the 3rd basemen got to very quickly and threw her out at 2nd.  This left Jackie Dubcak at first now.  Aimee Fifield was then hit in the helmet on a pitch. Caitly Garivey single to left to put the bases loaded with one out.  Missy Jesionowski walked to force in the first run.
After a pitching change Amber Mills greeted the pitcher with a single up the middle to tie the score.  Kelsey Eubanks popped up to make 2 outs and the bases loaded and the score tied at 2.  Lindsey Davis who had struck out the three previous at bats then hit a single to left to plate the go ahead run.
Rylie Kohls then hit a ball that Lindsey Davis and the 2nd baseman ran into each other which was called obstruction to end the inning.  Kelly was able to pitch the 7th with a great defensive play by Lauren Massar in foul territory to record the 2nd out and then Amber Mills made a diving catch at 2nd to end the game.  We finished 3rd in the tournament, but beat Deer Park that was playing in the championship game.
The tournament was based on a point system, which was affected by our loss to Barbers Hill who had lost to Deer Park 4-1 earlier in the tourney.  It was a good showing by the Lady Mustangs to go 4-1 in the tournament and finish 5-1 for the week.
The Lady Mustang record is now 9-3-1 overall.
