News: Bales teachers, students put exercise on their schedules
posted: Sept. 11, 2009

September is National America on the Move Month and Bales Intermediate is taking that seriously.
Approximately 350 students and teachers at Bales Intermediate plan to trek the entire state of Texas by foot!
It’s all part of a challenge. From September 8 to May 14, they are challenging themselves to walk enough steps to make it across the entire state.

It is 880 miles and 1,760,000 steps across Texas.  To measure their distance, the participants are wearing pedometers and recording their steps each day.
Currently, about 350 students and teachers have signed up for the Trek Across Texas Challenge.
Also at Bales are daily exercise helpers/leaders in each class.
They have attended a training session with Wellness/PE teacher Paula Jones and are ready to take on the responsibility of helping to lead warm-up exercises as well as helping out in other ways.
