News: 9 FHS students to receive letter jackets for Special Olympics
posted: Sept. 8, 2009

Confidence, skill and determination are common benefits of involvement with sports. For people with intellectual or physical disabilities, Special Olympics is often the only place where they have an opportunity to participate in their communities and develop a belief in themselves.

Special Olympics is an international organization created to help people develop self-confidence, social skills, and a sense of personal accomplishment.
Nine students at FHS will receive their Special Olympics letter jackets at the Friendswood ISD regular meeting of the School Board Sept. 15 at the Administration building.
The nine include Lee Crouther, Anna Griffith, Molly Hart, Cory Lowry, Ugo Okoro, Blake Robertson, Katelyn Sandridge, T.J. Sims, and Ben Theriault.
“Our students at Friendswood High School have felt the success of participating in Special Olympics,” Quest teacher and Special Olympics Coach Jann Davies said.  “Many have won several gold, silver, and bronze medals in sports such as Bowling, Track and Field, Basketball, and Swimming.”
FISD is looking to expand their Special Olympic program by offering additional sports and coaching positions.
“We look forward to cheering on our students as they represent Friendswood in this inspiring program,” Davies said.
