News: 2010 Inductees set for Hall of Honor in September
posted: August 23, 2010

Inductees have been announced for the 2010 Hall of Honor in Friendswood ISD. Five athletes, one coach and a supporter will be honored September 17 in the Walter D. Wilson Fieldhouse at 5:30 pm.
Athletes include Tom Long from 1960, Patricia Bookman Bradley and Shana Lowe Appel from 1970, Daniel Stuart from 1998, and Jaxson Appel from 2000.
Long played every sport and excelled in Football, Basketball and Track.  Bradley lettered in Girls Basketball and Track. Stuart played Football and ran track and played football on scholarship at the Air Force Academy.
The two Appels are mother and son. Shana Appel played Basketball, Volleyball, and Track. Although FHS did not have a swim team at the time, she was an avid swimmer. Shana swam and dove for Oklahoma State. Her son, Jaxson was a memorable football player and ran track. He attended Texas A&M University on a football scholarship.
Coach Debbie Armstrong will be honored for her work with the Volleyball teams from 1970-1980.
Supporter Jackie Scott will be placed in the Hall of Honor as the first president of the Athletic Booster Club.
All friends, players and coaches of the inductees are invited to attend. All past inductees are also encouraged to join this year’s inductees at the recognition.
The Hall of Honor has been the dream of athletic director Steve Van Meter for many years. It is located in the Walter D. Wilson Field House where it will continue to grow each year with additional members. The first induction was on October 4, 2002. The wall is divided into three categories: athletes, coaches and supporters. To recognize and honor these individuals, FISD and FHS will induct the Hall of Honor members during halftime events at the Varsity Mustang home game and host a reception in the fieldhouse before the game.
FISD, FHS and the district Athletic Department are excited about the Wall and the establishment of a tradition of honor for athletics.
