News: FHS Academic Decathlon team places second at State

           The Academic Decathlon team from Friendswood High School competed at the State AD meet in San Antonio recently. Friendswood won second place team overall, received third place in SuperQuiz team, and brought home many individual medals.
           Being second offers the team members $800 scholarships for each. The team won a total of $11,450 in scholarships.
           After months of hard work, FHS students finally saw their pay off, according to Sponsor Renae Simons.
           Individual awards were awarded in the three AD divisions.
           In the Honors Division, Brandon Goddard won third place in math; Winston Wu received fifth place individual overall, a $750 scholarship and a second place in math; and Corey Smith received third place in language and literature and a second place in music.
           In the Scholastic Division, Davis Anderson won fifth place individual overall and a $750 scholarship; and Chase Stanford placed fourth individual overall, received a $1000 scholarship, placed first in social science, third place in math and second place in economics.
           In the Varsity Division, Zack Thompson won fifth place individual overall, received a $750 scholarship and placed second in essay; Grady Burge placed fourth individual overall, received a $1000 scholarship, second place in language and literature, third place in music, third place in art, third place marth and second place economics.
           The three faculty sponsors include Renae Simons, Leslie Berryhill and Arden Curtis.
           “As a team we are very grateful for the support that we receive,” Simons said.
