posted: March 4, 2011

The Communications Department at Friendswood ISD received 17 Texas School Public Relations Association awards including three Best of Category Gold Medals, 10 Gold Stars and 4 Silver Star awards for excellence in school communications.
Two videos were not only Gold awards but were Best of Category at the State level. The videos were produced by Joe Perez. One involved a day in the life of the Maintenance Department in the school district, Maintenance Matters. The other was made by Perez for the Education Foundation and Alumni Association to advertise their 2010 Distinguished Alumni and the Luv Ya Blue gala at Hotel ZaZa.
The third Best of Category was for the Luv Ya Blue gala invitation.
The Communications Department is composed of Karolyn Gephart, Joe Perez, Jolly Ayrhart and webmaster Jane Ann Quevedo.
The awards were announced at the Texas School Public Relations Association (TSPRA) Star Awards Celebration on February 24 during the association’s annual conference at the Sheraton Arlington Hotel.
Each year, TSPRA recognizes communicators in school districts, education foundations, education associations and organizations for their outstanding work in both print and electronic media. This year, 1076 entries were received.
Entries selected as best in the state were honored with Silver Star, Gold Star and Best of Category Awards.
TSPRA, based in Austin, is a professional organization whose members are dedicated to improving public education in Texas by promoting effective public relations practices, providing professional development for its members, and improving communication between Texans and their public schools.
