The Lady Mustangs got back on track in Week 3.
The girls were able to go 4-2 on the week finishing second in the Lamar Consolidated Tournament.
The week did not start out so strong when the Lady Mustangs traveled to Clear Springs. After a hard fought game the Lady Mustangs came up short 6-4.
Lindsey Davis was the hitting star of the game going 3-4 with a homerun. Lauren Massar took the loss. In all, the Lady Mustangs would pound out 9 hits. Amber Mills, Caitlyn Garivey, Lauren Massar, Rylie Kohls would each have a hit and Jackie Dubcak would have 2.
On Thursday the Lady Mustangs traveled to the Lamar Consolidated Tournament and faced Houston Memorial, the Lady Mustangs would win 5-2. Kelsi Acosta and Tori Homer would each drive in 2 runs. Kelsi had 2 hits and Tori had 3. Others contributing were Caitlyn Garivey, Lindsey Davis, Lauren Massar, and Rylie Kohls. Lauren Massar would get the win.
The Lady Mustangs would then face Fort Bend Dulles in a hard fought game. The Lady Mustangs came away with another victory 2-0. Lauren Massar got the win limiting Dulles to 5 hits while striking out 3. The hitting stars were Amber Mills with 2 hits one of those a double and scoring 2 runs. Lindsey Davis would add a double with 2 RBI’s. Lauren Massar would have 2 hits, and Sabrina Yates would add a hit.
On Saturday in cold and windy conditions the Lady Mustangs would defeat Terry Foster 5-4, Stratford 8-3, and make it to the Championship game were they would lose to a very good West Columbia team 7-1.
In the Foster game, Caitlyn Garivey had a hit and drove in 2 runs, Rylie Kohls had a hit, Tori Homer had 2 doubles driving in a run, Kelsi Acosta had a hit and Hayley Spicer-Kendall had a hit. Lauren Massar got the win giving up 4 runs 3 earned striking out 7.
In the Stratford game, the Lady Mustangs would strt out scoring 3 runs in the first, only to see Stratford come back and tie it up 3 all in the first. It would stay that way until the 5th when the Lady Mustangs would strike for 5 runs with the big hit coming from Hayley Spicer-Kendall’s bases loaded clearing double. Other stars of the game were Amber Mills getting 3 hits scoring 2 runs, Caitlyn Garivey 1 hit and scoring 2 runs, Lindsey Davis with a hit, Lauren Massar with a hit, Rylie Kohls with a hit, scoring a run, and driving in a run, and Tori Homer with a hit. Lauren Massar would get the win giving up 3 runs, 2 earned, and striking out 5.
In the Championship game, the Lady Mustangs ran out of gas, but not without a fight. They would score first in the 2nd only to have W Columbia strike back with 6 in the 3rd on a couple of errors by the Mustang defense, and 3 doubles. They would also score one more in the 4th for their final score of 7-1. Rylie Kohls had 2 hits one of those a double, Tori Homer and Caitlyn Garivey each had a hit. Lauren Massar would take the loss.
The Lady Mustangs finish up tournament and non-district play going 10-8, but playing some very quality teams. The schedule should benefit the Lady Mustangs as they start district on Tuesday at Texas City.
