News: 6 FHS students named to National Hispanic Recognition Program
posted: November 2, 2010

Six FHS students were selected as 2010-11 National Hispanic Recognition Program (NHRP) Scholars and one Honorable Mention.
The five Scholars in the program include Kelsey Castro, Ernest Gonzales, Caitlin Laird, Richard Mata and Yanelli Rubio.
Alexander De La Fuente was named Honorable Mention in the prestigious program.
The NHRP was initiated in 1983 to identify outstanding Hispanic/Latino high school students. This year, the NHRP is recognizing nearly 5,000 students selected from a pool of more than 200,000 students who took the 2009 PSAT/NMSQT/PAA and identified themselves as Hispanic/Latino.
Although the College Board is unable to provide monetary awards for this, it is a privilege to recognize these outstanding students. This list of recognized students is distributed to subscribing four year postsecondary institutions in October. This gives the students an opportunity to hear from colleges that are particularly interested in communicating with academically outstanding students of Hispanic/Latino heritage.
