Representatives from the The Mike Doiron Legends of Friendswood Golf Tournament visited Friendswood High School and presented the school district with a check for $8,000. This money came from the tournament held last June.
            The money will be used for the Safe School Ambassadors grant, providing additional training for high school and junior high students involved in the program.
            Presenting the check were Legends representatives Marilyn Doiron, Susan Doiron, Greg Hoff, Lori Moore, Tina Lockridge, Amy Elguezabal, and Cheryl Rollen. School representatives accepting the check included Superintendent Trish Hanks, Deputy Superintendent Sherry Green, FHS Associate Principal Diane Myers, and FJH Principal Dana Drew. Students involved included Alexandra Semple, Mark Walker, Ileana Vivero, Kaylee Huff, Haley Hoff, Joseph Brownfield, Stephanie Bossert and Alexander Doty.
             2010 was the 20th anniversary golf tournament.
             The organization began providing funding to FISD in the form of grants for the enhancement, development, and enrichment of education within the schools, and to date has given over $123,000 in total funding to this grant program.
             In addition to the funding to FISD, more than $270,000 has been donated to The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center for critical seed money to develop new innovative protocols and treatments.
             “In both 2009 and 2010, the generosity of our sponsors, donors, and participants allowed us to donate $20,000 each year to this cause,” Susan Doiron said. Doiron serves as Vice President on the Board of Directors for the golf tournament.
             Next year's tournament will be held on March 26, 2011 and will include a Friendswood Alumni Pre-Party on the evening of March 25.
