Filing has ended for the Friendswood ISD Trustee Election Tuesday, November 2, 2010. The purpose of the election is to of elect three trustees to fill a four-year term of office for Positions 5, 6 and 7.
In Position 5, attorney Robert McCabe is running unopposed. McCabe, an incument, is completing his first four-year term on the board.
In Position 6, Pastor Ralph Hobratschk of Hope Lutheran Church is running unopposed. Hobratschk is returning to the Board where he has served several terms. Brandon Burris who currently serves in Position 6 is not seeking re-election.
In Position 7, David Montz, DDS, is running unopposed. This will be the first time Montz, an FHS graduate, will be on the Board. Incumbent Denise Ruiz is not seeking re-election in this position.
The Board of Trustees is the educational policy-making body for Texas public school districts. To effectively meet the challenges of public education, school boards and superintendents must function together as a leadership team. Each leadership team must annually assess its development needs as a corporate body and individually to gain an understanding of the vision, structure, accountability and advocacy needed to provide educational programs and services that ensure the equity and excellence in performance of all students.
Since all three positions are unopposed, an Order of Cancellation for the election is on the agenda for the regular meeting of the School Board Sept. 13, 2010. Note:  the FISD School Board meetings have moved from the second Tuesday in each month to the second Monday in each month.
