News: Letter jackets, new patches given to Special Olympics athletes
posted: September 13, 2010

Special Olympic athletes from Friendswood High School, Laura Bowlin, Kevin Brown, and Mikey Hickey all participated in Track and Field last May to earn their Friendswood Letter Jackets.  Also earning additional patches in Track and Field was Molly Hart.  These athletes received their jackets and patches at the September 13 meeting of the FISD School Board.
FHS Principal Mark Griffon passed out the jackets and helped each athlete put his/her new jacket on. He was joined by Special Education teachers Jan Davies and Kassie Pustejovsky.
The mission of Special Olympics Texas is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
Teresa Byrd and Beth Lane coached the team. Laura Sarafin is the District Coordinator.
Friendswood is expanding their Special Olympics program and is now offering Softball, Volleyball, Aquatics, Bowling, and Track and Field.
