Piper German and Leslie Breaux's Social Studies classes have been very busy the last few weeks researching the history and cultures of the Texas Indian tribes.
Students had an opportunity to become a member of a Caddo, Jumano, Karankawa, and Lipan Apache tribes. Then the tribe members created an Indian village representing the life of their tribe.
Some of the things that the students created was a Caddo beehive hut, pueblo, adobe oven, pottery, and dugout canoe. Students dressed up in native dress and told an oral history of the tribe.
Many of the students from Westwood-Bales, parents, and family enjoyed seeing the four tribes perform.
“The students have really enjoyed this project and have learned a lot! We learned about Indian culture from Tim Tingle. We have researched using a moodle, taken notes, created graphic organizers, wrote a summary using a blog, created props and pottery with clay. The students have worked together as tribes to create their villages,” German said.
